In May 1951, David Remez died while serving as Israel's minister of education and culture. The Jewish Virtual Library records that he was born in Kopys, settled in Palestine in 1913, and was secretary general of the Histadrut from 1935 to 1944.

He signed the Declaration of Independence and was minister of transportation in the provisional government and the first elected government.
