On this day, Faigel Lazebnik, later Faye Schulman, was born in Lenin, then in Poland and now in Belarus. She learned photography from her brother Moishe.

After the August 14, 1942, massacre of about 1,850 Jews from the Lenin ghetto, she was among 26 people spared for their skills. She later joined the Molotava partisan brigade as a nurse and photographed partisan life. The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum describes her as one of only several known Jewish partisan photographers.
