On this day, Governor General Hans Frank ordered Jews in the General Government to wear a white armband with a blue Star of David. USHMM records that the order covered Jews over the age of ten and that the band was worn on the right sleeve. Jews had to obtain the bands themselves. The requirement took effect on 1 December 1939.

Local German authorities had already imposed Jewish badges in some Polish towns. USHMM records the first of those local orders at Włocławek on 29 October 1939. Frank's decree applied in the General Government, the part of occupied Poland under German civilian administration.
