On this day, Georges Loinger was born in Strasbourg, then in the German Empire. He joined the Hatikvah Zionist youth movement as a teenager. Captured as a French soldier in 1940, he escaped a German prisoner-of-war camp and joined the French Resistance.

Working with the Œuvre de secours aux enfants, he helped about 350 Jewish children cross into Switzerland in 1943–1944. He died in Paris on 28 December 2018, at 108.
