On this day, German forces invaded Yugoslavia and Greece. Italy’s failed 1940 campaign against Greece had already opened the Balkan front. The German attack began with air and ground operations, including the bombing of Belgrade.

Occupation brought immediate persecution of Jews in both countries. Deportations and mass murder came later, community by community, and are not collapsed into this invasion day. This article dates the opening of the 6 April 1941 campaigns.
