On this day, the First Knesset passed the Law of Return, 5710–1950. The official English text dates passage to 20 Tammuz 5710 / 5 July 1950 and publication in Sefer Ha-Chukkim No. 51 the same civil day. The Knesset legislation catalog also lists a 6 July 1950 publication stamp.
The 1950 statute stated that every Jew has the right to come to Israel as an oleh. Later migrations, including those of Ethiopian and Soviet Jews, used the law after later amendments.
