On this day, the Council of the League of Nations confirmed the Mandate for Palestine, an instrument dated London, 24 July 1922. Britain was the mandatory. The text incorporated the 1917 Balfour Declaration’s national-home language and the safeguard for the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities. It did not declare a Jewish state, and it did not name Jerusalem as “the holiest city in Judaism.”

The San Remo allocation of April 1920 is a separate story.
