On this day, the Red Army entered Łódź. The ghetto had already been liquidated. In the summer of 1944 the remaining tens of thousands of inmates were deported, most of them to Auschwitz. A few hundred Jews had been kept back to crate abandoned property and then escaped into hiding as the Germans prepared to kill them.

About 800 Jews were found in the former ghetto area. The 8 February 1940 establishment order is a separate story.
