On this day, Menachem Begin was born in Brest-Litovsk. The Nobel Foundation records the date as 16 August 1913 and names his parents as Zeev-Dov and Hassia Begin. He later commanded the Irgun, founded Herut, and became prime minister in 1977.
He died in Tel Aviv on 9 March 1992.
