On this day, Michael Levin was killed in Lebanon. The Jerusalem Post records that the paratrooper, age 22, was killed in Ayta ash-Shab on 1 August 2006. He had come from Pennsylvania to serve in the Israel Defense Forces.

The New York Times reported his burial at Mount Herzl on 3 August.
