On this day, Sara Ginaite-Rubinson died at her home in Canada at the age of 94. Born in Kaunas on March 17, 1924, she was forced into the Kovno ghetto after the 1941 German invasion, joined the Anti-Fascist Organization, and later fought with the “Death to the Occupiers” Jewish partisan unit.

After the war she taught political economics at Vilnius University. She moved to Canada in 1983 and later taught as an adjunct at York University. Her book Resistance and Survival: The Jewish Community in Kaunas, 1941–1944 appeared in English in 2005.
