On 25 February 1941, workers in Amsterdam began a general strike against the German persecution of Jews. The Jewish Virtual Library records that the strike continued through 26 February, after a roundup on 22 and 23 February. The Anne Frank House records that the Communist Party called the strike and that it started when the trams did not leave the depot.
The Joods Monument records that the occupation forces killed nine people while suppressing the strike, and that it spread beyond Amsterdam before it was broken.
