On this day, German forces began liquidating the Kopernik labor camp in Mińsk Mazowiecki. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s account of Guta Tyrangiel records that prisoners resisted and that the Germans set the camp on fire. Her mother, Rachel Tyrangiel, was killed.

The same account dates an earlier roundup of the Mińsk Mazowiecki ghetto to 21 August 1942. A study in the Rocznik Mińsko-Mazowiecki also dates the start of that liquidation to 21 August 1942. People were killed in the town, and others were sent to the rail ramp for Treblinka.
