On this day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 on the future government of Palestine. The official record of the 128th plenary meeting says the vote was 33 in favor, 13 against, and 10 abstentions.

The resolution recommended ending the British Mandate and partitioning the country into a Jewish state and an Arab state, with Jerusalem under a special international regime. The United Kingdom abstained.
