On this day, SS and Police Leader Jürgen Stroop reported to Berlin that the large-scale ghetto operation had ended and that “the former Jewish quarter of Warsaw is no longer in existence.” He dated the termination to 20:15, marked by blowing up the Great Synagogue on Tłomackie Street. The uprising had begun on 19 April.

USHMM records that German forces razed the ghetto block by block. About 42,000 survivors were sent to labor camps and Majdanek; about 7,000 were sent to Treblinka; at least 7,000 Jews died fighting or in hiding. Mordechai Anielewicz had died at 18 Miła Street on 8 May.
