On this day, Yitzhak Rabin became prime minister of Israel. The Prime Minister's Office records that he was elected prime minister on 3 June 1974, after Golda Meir's government dissolved. The Nobel Foundation records that the Knesset expressed confidence in his new government on 2 June 1974.

He had returned from the ambassadorship in Washington, won a Knesset seat in December 1973, and served briefly as minister of labor.
