#onthisday, 1939, Jews over the age of 10 were forced to wear a white armband with a blue Star of David embroidered on it. Jews were to make, pay, and ditribute the bands themselves or face fines, prison, deportations, beatings, or execution. Even inside the ghettos, the bands and eventually the yellow stars were forced upon the Jews stuck in Europe.
.
Not an uncommon tactic in European history, the use of distinctive badges for Jews had been implemented by monarchies and churches on various occasions throughout Jewish history in Europe.
