#onthisday, 1763, the oldest synagogue in America is dedicated in Newport, Rhode Island during Channukah, 5524.

In 1790, President George Washington famously wrote a letter to the Jews of Newport ensuring safety and freedom for the “Stock of Abraham” living in the US.
