#onthisday, 1959, just over 20 years after it was destroyed on Kristallnacht, the Roonstrasse Synagogue in Cologne, Germany was rebuilt and soon desecrated with swastikas and the phrase, “Juden Raus” – “Jews Out”. This is also one of 5 synagogues that still remains standing from before the Nazi era in Cologne – the first German town Jews settled in after the Roman exile from Judea.
