#onthisday, 1966, legendary comic, actor, director, producer, and musician @adamsandlerwas born. Happy Birthday Adam!

Born in Brooklyn, New York to Russian-Jewish immigrants, Sandler moved to Manchester, New Hampshire at the age of six, where he took part in BBYO (a Jewish youth group) as a teenager.

.

Sandler would go on to graduate from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1988. After his film debut in “Going Overboard”, Sandler spent a lot of time in comedy clubs doing stand up.

.

He was discovered by comedian Dennis Miller, who caught Sandler’s act in Los Angeles and recommended him for Saturday Night Live. Sandler was hired as a writer for SNL in 1990, becoming a featured performer the following the year.

.

He was then launched into stardom and invited to act in a plethora of comedy movies, such as the iconic “Billy Madison” in 1995.

.

Although his films have not historically received favorable critical attention, he has been a part of various award-quality performances throughout.

.

This has been a defining characteristic of Sandler’s film career; among a series of Razzie-worthy comedy movies, there are a number of series and award-winning films. Most recently the 2019 Safdie brothers film, “Uncut Gems”, received much praise in the past year, reminding all viewers of Sandler’s true gift for acting.

Always proud of his Jewish heritage, Adam has made sure to be vocal about this aspect of his identity through both his actions and performances.
