The 2nd Lebanon War was sparked by Hezbollah #onthisday. It was a 34 day military conflict between Hezbollah, the Iranian terrorist proxy, and the IDF in Lebanon and Northern Israel.

.

The 2nd Lebanon War began on July 12th when Hezbollah shot rockets and mortars on Northern Israeli towns as a diversion for the Hezbollah militans who were simultaneously infiltrating Israel, hiding in a valley and attacking two humvees that killed three IDF soldiers and kidnapped two reservists.

.

The IDF responded by launching air attacks at Southern Lebanon directed at Hezbollah command posts, weapon storages, and rocket launch sites. Beginning on July 13th, Hezbollah began shooting hundreds of rockets and missiles at Northern Israeli towns. Israel called for a ceasefire but Hezbollah outright rejected it.

.

Due to the non-stop rocket fire into Israel, on July 22nd, the IDF began a ground operation into Lebanon. Hezbollah continued to fire hundreds of rockets towards Israeli cities everyday (including Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city with up to half of the population comprising of Arab-Israelis). Hezbollah also targeted the Rambam Hospital in Haifa specifically. Following the war, the Rambam Hospital built a bomb-proof underground parking lot that would serve as an emergency option to move all patients to in the event of future wars.

.

Almost 4,000 rockets were shot at Israel over the course of the 2nd Lebanon War. On August 11th, the United Nations security council drafted a ceasefire agreement. Hezbollah continued to shoot rockets and Israel continued to retaliate by striking command posts and rocket launch sites. On August 14th, the ceasefire went into effect, although during the next couple of days small clashes still occurred.

.

During the 2nd Lebanon war, 49 Israeli civilians and 121 IDF soldiers were killed. Over a thousand civilians and soldiers were wounded. Hezbollah retreated and has continued to build up with funding from Iran, time and time again threatening another conflict with genocidal intentions.
