,#onthisday, 2020, a fifth US-brokered normalization and peace agreement between Israel and an Arab nation is confirmed – this time, The Republic of Sudan.

.

The third in 2020, this specific deal is monumental in that Sudan and Israel were in an actual state of belligerence (unlike UAE and Bahrain).

.

Sudan had been a base for Hamas and various enemies of Israel sourced from Iran and Hezbollah – using the nation as a base to smuggle arms into Gaza.

.

These actions led to heavy sanctions being placed on Sudan that took a toll on the nation’s faltering economy – seeing an opportunity after the toppling of dictator Omar al-Bashir – Sudan began quiet talks with Israel.

.

The US State Department has officially removed Sudan as a sponsor for terror that will allow the country to begin receiving aid from the US.

.

Historically, the impact of this deal is groundbreaking being that the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, was the site of the infamous 3 Nos declared following the 6 Day War in 1967: No Peace, No Recognition, No Negotiation with Israel (see our post from 9.1.20)

.

Who will be next?
