2 Jewish businessmen named Levi Strauss (L) & Jacob Davis (R) obtained the US patent to put rivets

in men’s working pants, giving birth to the blue jean.

At the time, there had been an immense migration of people to California and the neighboring areas looking for gold.

.

Strauss had moved to San Francisco in 1853 with a strong understanding of the demand for dry goods that the gold rush would create.

Soon, the need for more adequate clothes for the rough miner environment was evident.

.

One of Strauss’ customers, a tailor named Jacob Davis, began experimenting with pants by putting metal rivets at the places of strain. Safe to say those early jeans weren’t as comfortable as they are now.

.

Once he realized the viability of his product, Davis reached out to Strauss; seeking a business partner and the rest is history.
