#onthisday, 1971, legendary entertainer, actor, comedian and producer Sacha Baron Noam Cohen was born. Happy 49th @sachabaroncohen!

.

Baron Cohen began his professional career by studying history at the University of Cambridge, a sharp contrast from the entertainment path he ultimately chose to pursue.

.

While in college, he found time to convey his love for performing and his Orthodox heritage as the stereotypical, overprotective Jewish father Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof.”

.

Soon after he made the switch from his history studies, he rose to fame on “The 11 O’Clock Show” in 1998. He originated the satirical character, Ali G, who exposed politicians and celebrities via interviews and would surely provide a source of his future work. Ali G even earned himself his own show and movie in the early 2000s, along with his friends, who were ironically antisemitic and discriminatory.

.

Small TV screens weren’t quite enough to satisfy Cohen’s big sense of humor, so his next step was conquering the movies as king of the lemur empire in the 2005 Madagascar animated movie.

.

Then he famously earned a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award nomination for his hilarious movie, Borat, in 2006 and just last week, announced a new Borat (Subsequent Movie Film) releasing on 10.23.20 on Prime.

.

Cohen has also been incredibly outspoken about the rise of antisemitism worldwide – giving a powerful speech at a recent ADL Conference about the role of social media companies in protecting Jews from violent and hateful speech shared on their platforms.

.

Though he is best known as a satirical comedian, Baron Cohen has also assumed more serious roles in his career. Namely in the recent series “The Spy” about Eli Cohen and his new movie “The Trial of the Chicago 7″

.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s his impact on the entertainment industry and humorous views on political issues have resonated worldwide. We celebrate his birthday, his work, and wish him only success.
