#onthisday, 1862, a little known event of the American Civil War occurs where General Ulysses S. Grant impulsively expelled Jews from a military district in the south in an attempt to curb black market cotton sales. After hearing that some individual Jews were involved, he declared that all Jews are to required to leave within 24 hours from a certain area of Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.

.

Grant would ultimately regret the decision and the act would chase his reputation like a ghost for the rest of his political career.
