The legendary actor, writer, comedian and household Jew, Larry David, was born #onthisday in Brooklyn, New York turning 72.

.

While working as a stand-up comedian, David held numerous professions including store clerk, limo driver and historian. From 1980-1982 David worked as a writer and cast member of Fridays on ABC and from 1984-1985 served as a writer on Saturday Night Live with only one of his sketches airing during the show’s final time slot.

.

It’s during this time that David met Michael Richards on Fridays and Julia Louis-Dreyfus on SNL. David first worked with Jerry Seinfeld in 1989 when the two worked together on The Seinfeld Chronicles, a pilot for NBC. This became the foundation for Seinfeld, one of the greatest comedy shows of all time. David stayed on as co-writer until the end of the seventh season, playing the voice of the Steinbrenner character throughout.

.

While also known for his recent SNL appearances as Bernie Sanders, David is primarily known for his HBO show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, a dark humor improvesque comedy show in which David plays a fictionalized version of himself. All of the main characters play themselves. David created, stars and writes. The show went on an indefinite hiatus following the show’s eighth season, however, Curb returned for its ninth season in the fall of 2017 and was renewed for its eleventh season this past June.

.

As discussed on the recent @two.tall.jews episode, an air of mystery is known to have surrounded David’s personality, with many believing his private persona mirrors the one displayed on tv. David, very much aware of this, has taken great pains to convince people that he’s the opposite of his fictional self. Regardless, the Larry David the world has come to know and love has manifested itself into the penultimate cultural representation of the modern American Jew. Whether it be the hand gestures, or his signature phrase “Pre-tay Pre-tay good” David has risen side by side with his own caricature.
