#onthisday, 1918, Israeli aviation legend and Palmach parachutist, Yoel Palgi is born in Cluj, Austria-Hungary.

He would go on to parachute into Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe on the same mission as Hannah Szenes to save Hungarian Jews, play a key role in attaining planes for Israel’s War of Independence, the founding of El-Al / airlift of Mizrachi Jews from Arab countries, and shortly serve as Israel’s ambassador to Tanzania.
